Wal-Mart Suppliers Spent Only Minimum Required to Comply with RFID Mandate

Many of the Wal-Mart suppliers are more than convinced that RFID provides no ROI and that the money they are investing in deploying RFID based solutions are only to comply by the compulsion and demands of Wal-Mart. Thats really bad. This news was a bit of surprise for me as I always used to hear and read about the great ROI RFID technology promises IF it is integrated into the business processes of an organization!!!

AMR research group who has conducted the survey enumerates 3 points that are holding back these firms to deploy full scale RFID solutions one of which is this incomplete and limited implementation of RFID solutions.

RFID Labels Test 100% Readable

RFID Alliance labs tested 105 XTrack Smart labels (tags) and found 100% readability. Though there still are some issues that need to be solved in this experiment but the aim that they want to achieve would be quite critical to the RFID's future. RFID is basically used for inventory control and in enhancing efficiency through better visibility into the asset management. Cut in human labor required (and henceforth reduction is human errors) is one of the reasons that RFID would help in cost reduction for an enterprise. Hence it is of utmost importance that RFID tegchnology matures itself to a level where the errors in reading tags etc. are near to zero.

In many of the case studies of RFID pilot projects one would notice that the reduction in errors through automation is one of the main reasons why people are inclined to deploy RFID solutions.
